Some people might not be aware of Cruise’s intense attachment with the church of Scientology, but his outspoken defense of the church and their policies has landed him in many controversial situations. One such incident were his remarks regarding Brooke Shields and her use of the drug Paxil, a treatment condemned by Cruise’s church.  Cruise did apologize for those remarks later, which Shield’s said she totally accepted without reservation because she believed that Cruise had been totally sincere and heartfelt in his apologizing for his comments. However, he has stated that his stance on the use of the drug has not changed.
